A child deserves and has the right to be supported by their parents. In Georgia, the law states that the parent is responsible for supporting their child until they reach 18 years of age, or age 20 if they remain in high school, unless they get married or become emancipated. The parent primarily responsible for taking care of the child has the right to receive financial support from the other parent. There are several steps to obtaining a child support order.

There are different actions that you can take to get child support from the non-custodial parent.
The first and most popular option for obtaining a child support order is contacting your county’s Child Support Services Office. This agency will assist you by helping you get the order, collect the child support you’re owed, and get an absentee parent to pay the child support they owe, no matter where they live. A $25 fee is charged for this service.
You can also go to court if you believe you may be owed child support. Common cases that go to court to get assistance are custody cases, paternity cases, divorce cases, and family violence cases. An attorney can help you get the support that you need and deserve.

If the parent hasn’t paid child support for more than 30 days, you can file a criminal abandonment warrant. The other parent can be charged with abandonment and can be placed in jail for failure to pay a court-ordered child support amount. You can also consider other legal actions if the other parent fails to pay their child support as ordered.

Georgia child support law uses what is known as the “Income Shares Model” to calculate child support by using a worksheet. Guidelines state that both parents' total gross income must be considered. When this amount and the number of children are entered into the worksheet, an amount will be shown. Other factors that go into consideration are childcare, insurance premiums, and extracurricular and educational expenses. My experience with divorce may be a little uncommon as I was attempting to divorce a narcissistic socio-path who did not want to divorce, nor did he want to bring ease to the process. Ms. E handled the case with white gloves. After resistance from the defendant as well as his attorney (they neglected to accomplish anything in a timely manner) Ms. E was astute and relentless throughout the trial. She was very thorough in presenting exhibits (of which we had many), detailed as to what my entitlements were, and very absolute about presenting my demands. Needless to say - I walked away with just about everything I wanted, of course there are no "winners' in divorce, especially when children are involved, but overall she made my life changing experience something that I can look back on and smile about because it flowed so smoothly. I would and have recommended her already to two of my friends. She is a total and complete professional.” - Tiffany Clark
